ABSTRACT: Exploring the role of early childhood education in promoting active citizenship is vital for developing responsible and engaged citizens. This study aimed to evaluate how early childhood education programs influence children's understanding and practice of active citizenship. The objectives were to (1) assess improvements in children's knowledge of civic duties, (2) evaluate the integration of citizenship activities into the curriculum, and (3) examine changes in children's participation in community initiatives. A survey design was employed to gather comprehensive data from participants, allowing for a broad assessment of the topic. A purposive sample of 110 children aged 4-6 years, engaged in citizenship education programs, was selected to ensure relevant experiences. The case study focused on an early childhood education center in Kebbi State, known for its community engagement programs. Findings indicated significant improvements in children's knowledge of civic duties, the effectiveness of citizenship activities, and increased participation in community initiatives. The study recommended integrating active citizenship education into early childhood curricula and providing training for educators to effectively promote active citizenship.
